Floral Arrangement

Monday, October 4th, 2010

Floral prints seem to be pretty big this spring.  Whether it’s apart of a shirt or an accessory, it seems to be everywhere.  For my own tastes, I tend to stray away from such things as a floral shirt.  But I’ve found there’s nothing wrong with throwing it in here or there with a floral print silk tie.  Fred from Unabashedly Prep has a great series this week highlighting Rugby suiting.  One thing that caught my eye in many shots is the use of floral print silk ties in the styling.  It really inspired me to get more use out of the one I own, and I also want to find a second one to add to my collection.  It’s an easy and subtle way to add some color to a spring wardrobe.  Floral patterned ties can be found from numerous brands, including Billy Reid and Ralph Lauren.  Below are a few of Fred’s photos, plus a shot of my own floral print silk tie:

My own tie…

The look might not be for everyone, but it’s perfect enough for me this spring.

Head to Toe- Spring Edition: Billy Reid

Thursday, August 26th, 2010

With the upcoming release of the K-Swiss collaboration sneakers tomorrow, I feel like highlighting my favorite brand today: Billy Reid.  Now, you would think I’d include that shoe in this “Head to Toe” look, but sorry, I’m not.  That shoe gets it’s own post this week (after I purchase them).  Instead, I’m going to let another favorite piece from the Spring collection anchor today’s look.  I’m a huge fan of the Patterson blue and white houndstooth double breasted jacket.  This Italian made jacket is 100% linen, and let me tell you, it is heavy.  While the fabric is very thick, the linen still provides the breathability one expects.  Due to the busy pattern on the sport coat, let that do the talking while keeping the rest of the look subtle…

Now if you’ve been reading this blog for a minute, it’d be easy to see that I’m quite the “fan boy” when it comes to Billy Reid.  You could grab anything from his collection, and I’d think the look would be perfect.

8 bit watch

Analog glory for the stylish geek.

If I had an editor, she would point out that Stylerant target readers may not know what “8-bit” or “meatspace” means. And if this were a HuffPo piece, she would say, “can you work in a Lady Gaga reference? She’s in concert tonight. Where’s Kate Middleton? She sneezed this morning. Nobody’s going to click on this.”

Pphhhttt. I know some stylish geeks, and they know I know them, so let me get on with showing these neato Icon watches. 8-bit glory for all the world to see, and about 100 times cooler than some lame Lorem Ipsum t-shirt.

They’re over at Poketo, which is chock-full of all manner of whimsical joy, like the Idea notebook (note: ideas not included) or the Cubebot, not to be confused with “blockhead,” which is what your boyfriend is when he wears madras and flipflops.

Head to Toe- EASTER EDITION: J. Crew

Saturday, August 14th, 2010

Not only is today’s post apart of the Spring Edition of “Head to Toe,” we’re going full on Easter on ya.  Today’s “Head to Toe” look would be something great to wear to grandma’s for Easter dinner (thanks to Jay from Brooklynesque for the idea!).  While it’s fun to bust out seersucker and/or colorful madras on Easter, it’s not always for everyone.  So if one was wanting to leave the pastels to the Easter eggs, stick with the basics in lightweight fabrics.  A khaki sport coat, white shirt, and navy chinos are a great way to go.  I really like the Italian cotton piqué and linen blend Ludlow suit jacket from J. Crew.  It has a unique texture, and it has the breathability of linen.  Throw that on with a white linen shirt and navy chinos, and you’ll ready to get your Honey Baked Ham on.

And don’t forget to bring your grandmother some Easter lilies… she’ll think you’re the perfect grandson.

Let’s get horizontal.

Junya Watanabe horizontal stripe jacket

Goin' to a party.

Holymotherofheaven! I saw this last night at the Goodhood site, which is loaded with stuff at outrageous English prices. Other lame sites are blathering on about what to wear to the royal wedding. This is what I’d be sporting. It’s jaunty.

It brought to mind the classic Elvis “Jailhouse Rock” video, even though the King does not wear a striped jacket, but a striped shirt with a black jacket. He was still awesome. If you’ve lived your whole life and never seen it, go watch. He really was something in his day. It looks like it was done in a single performance instead in 1000 takes with 1000 edits. Lady Gaga, the King had style. You have stylists. Not the same.

Pocket squares? Meh.

Skull lapel pin

Let's contemplate mortality.

Stylerant notes that ironic prom season is underway. Because nothing could be more fun than, as an adult, going back to the time in your life when you were insecure about sex and spent good family income on an outfit you’d wear one time. Which would be different than today, how?

Tomorrow’s Easter, too. Maybe you’re planning to wear your pastel spring suit out into the world, darken the doors of church with your Mom, and eat ham and deviled eggs in the afternoon.

Either way, this is 100 times better than a pocket square: a lapel pin with a little pygmy skull on it. Pop it into the buttonhole of your seersucker frock and demonstrate some whimsy as the kids get jacked on peeps and Cadbury eggs.

Happy Easter, and enjoy the prom. Don’t forget to carry a you-know-what in your pocket or purse.

What Our Office is Buzzing About!

Saturday, July 31st, 2010

Being the crazed shopaholics that we are here at ShopAcrossTexas, our office is constantly buzzing about new stores, new lines and new products, so we thought we’d share our current obsessions with you…

New and Improved: GapBodyFit
Do you remember Gap’s line of “activewear” from a few years back? If not, allow us to refresh your memory: It was far more akin to loungewear or pajamas than it was to proper workout apparel. But no more! Gap has acquired activewear company Athleta and is now rolling out fierce gym-wear that will give lululemon a run for her money. With moisture-wicking materials and perfectly-placed pockets, we’re already sold on GapBodyFit, but we officially fell hard when we checked out the pricing: .50-.50 for pants and hoodies/jackets, .50-.95 for shorts and skirts, and – for sports bras. Run on, people. Run on.

Anthropologie’s Wedding Remix: BHLDN

Anthropologie has come to the rescue of modern and non-traditional brides everywhere with its new bridal line, BHLDN–that’s “beholden” sans vowels. Wedding gowns, offered in various lengths, prints and colors, are priced from ,000-,000, but that’s not all! BHLDN also includes regular ol’ special occasion frocks that are perfect for bridesmaids and wedding guests. Those babies run from 0-0 a pop. The line also includes veils, (exquisite) shoes and wraps, but will grow to include everything from cake pedestals to place cards. For now, the line is sold exclusively online at BHLDN.com, but there will be 2-3 brick-and-mortar locations by 2012.

Designer Collaboration: Matthew Williamson for Macy’s

Remember a couple of summer back when Matthew Williamson did a capsule collection for H&M? Well if you weren’t lucky enough to snag those looks, you’re in luck! Mr. Williamson is launching a diffusion line for Macy’s in stores and online on April 13. Yes, this April 13. Mark your calendars now. The line will capture an effortless glamour and MW’s signature propensity for bold prints and strong color. Expect to see about 30 pieces that include embellished dresses, printed scarves, blouses and day-to-evening rompers, with prices starting at just . Dresses max out at 0, but there is a sure-to-be-coveted leather jacket that will ring in at 0. We die.

With messages like “I love you more than Facebook” and “Have your people call my people,” the greeting cards are mad cute, but you can also ask to have your own design or saying whipped up into a notecard, etc. 99% of the line’s products are printed in Dallas on paper purchased in Dallas.
